Cancun the tenth busiest international airport in the world affirmed Secretary of Tourism of Quintana Roo
The Secretary of Tourism of Quintana Roo, Bernardo Cueto, pointed out on his social networks that the Cancun International Airport is now the tenth most visited in the world according to the Airports Council International (ACI), for the first time in history, which he celebrated with a video in which he pointed out that it is indeed an example of economic recovery for the state.
The Cancun airport was placed in the 10th place of the ACI after its relevance in the last two years where it became the tourist center of Mexico and Latin America, this is due to the fact that the terminal was never closed despite the health situation that confronted the world during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Cancun Airport is now among the 10 aerodromes in the world with the most international passenger traffic, according to the Airports Council International in its annual report on Monday, April 11. ACI said global passenger traffic in 2021 was almost 4.5 billion travelers, 25% higher than in 2020 but half of what was recorded in 2019.
The world airport association interpreted the increase in traffic in 2021 as “an encouraging sign” of the recovery of air travel, the same idea that the head of the Sedetur in Quintana Roo replicated. Cancun, the capital of Mexican international tourism, was in tenth place, with 13.2 million, an increase of 94.5%. Last year’s figure was 19.7% lower than in 2019.
In ninth place was Madrid airport with 15.3 million passengers after an increase of 38.8% compared to 2020 but still 65.9% less than in 2019.
